It
is 70 years since the women
students were admitted in the college and 69 years since
women’s hostel was
functioning in rented homes at Professors colony, Pallavaram, Guindy
and from
1968 in M.C.C. campus.
Started
as Women’s
Hostel for 40
girls in M.C.C. the hostel was named ‘Martin Hall’
in 1990 and has seen
extensions over these years. The present strength is 211 residents with
5 staff
on residence. The residents are ranging from I U.G to M. Phil. coming
from
different parts of the country and a few overseas students from Sri
Lanka, Tibet
and Tanzania.
The
residents have a conducive
atmosphere for studies and live and grow together as one family. The
Hall has
many facilities like the Agnes Martin Auditorium where they have their
General
body meetings and programmes, a library, a prayer room with a grand
piano, an
Indoor games Recreation centre, 24 hours water supply, a
‘Solarizer’ with 24
hours hot water, water cooler, an infirmary and guest rooms for parents
to
stay.
The
cabinet along with the
general body plan their programme and every resident is involved in all
the
activities. They have outreach programmes like teaching the children of
Model
village, R.S.L School, F.L.I and visiting a senior citizens Home at
Perungalathur.
It
is 11 years since I have
joined as a warden and it is my joy to work with the young minds who
have good
talents, vibrant vision and a focus for quality life. The student
leadership is
unique in M.C.C. and the Inter block events, Inter year competitions,
annual
events and the Hall day nurture a feeling of camaraderie among the
residents.
Hundreds of residents have passed out and their contribution enabled
the Hall
and the residents to grow.
I
remember with gratitude all
the
Principals, Wardens, Cabinet, General Body Hall staff & Mess
staff for
their untiring efforts and contribution.
Let
us
dream to achieve great
things and move forward from strength to strength.
